Topeka man dies in work-related accident at Osage City plant

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Osage City Police Chief Fred Nech has reported in a Facebook post that a man died early Wednesday morning in a work related accident at ORBIS Corporation, in Osage City, Kan.

According to the post, about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, the police were called to ORBIS’s plant at 515 S. Fifth St., Osage City. Upon arrival, officers found Ruben Guadlaupe Chavira, 53, Topeka, deceased.

“The apparent cause of the accident was a forklift Mr. Chavira was operating pinned him against other equipment, causing fatal injuries,” Nech said in the post.

The post said another employee had discovered the accident. Chavira was employed as a press operator and backup grinder.

The accident is under investigation by the county coroner, ORBIS and OSHA, according to the police department.
