John (Jack) Wesley Ard, 85, Carbondale: Aug. 8, 1931 – June 8, 2017

CARBONDALE, Kan. – John (Jack) Wesley Ard, 85, died June 8, 2017, at his home in Carbondale, Kan., with his wife and other family members present. He was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Osage City, Kan., to Elmer and Marie Harper Ard.

John lived most of his life in Osage County, and attended school in Osage City. He worked at a salvage yard in Osage City, and at IBP, in Emporia, for a short time. He also ran the 56 Auto in Scranton, selling cars and salvage until retiring and working in the yard and garden at home. He loved to grow tomatoes and melons.

Family members surviving are his wife, Sharon, of the home; a brother, Merle (Jean) Ard, Topeka, Kan., and two sisters, Lois (Roger) Gurtler and Verna (Raymond)Morris, both of Osage City; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ard, Aurora, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Elmer Ard, Edwin Ard, Ethel Payne, Edith Bridgewater, Agnes Payne and Bob Ard.

He loved all of his family. He hosted many family reunions at his home, working on the yard for many days preparing for everyone to enjoy time together.

John was cremated at his request.

A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Scranton Community Center, 300 E. Boone St., Scranton. Casual attire is suggested; a small lunch will be served following the service.
