OCPR Update: The pool’s cool, but summer heats up with art, gymnastics, yoga, football

OCPR-logo-redWhen you’re looking for a way to beat the heat this summer, take a look at the Osage City Aquatic Center. Osage City Parks and Recreation has the pool ready for recreation or lessons. And for summertime blues, OCPR is offering plenty of fun to keep kids lively, active and healthy, including art, gymnastics, yoga and football. Here are details:

Osage City Aquatic Center

  • Pool Hours: May 27-August 6, Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.; August 7-Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day)
  • Daily Admission, $3 (age 4 and Above); age 3 and below FREE; age 65 and over FREE
  • OCAC Swim Pass Booklets: Swim Booklets go on sale at Osage City Hall May 22 and are available for purchase at OCAC starting May 27; 50 Swim Card Booklet, $50; deck and pool rental reservation can be made with Corey Linton.

Red Cross Swim Lessons

  • Session Two, July 10-20
  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 years old), Level 2
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 3, 5, Preschool
  • 11-11:45, Level 2, 4, Preschool
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 months-2 years)
  • Sign-up deadline, July 3
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Private Lessons

  • Session Two, July 3-7, a.m. only
  • OCAC staff will contact you about a time during the session selected
  • Other times may be available (contact OCAC)
  • $40 per week (One week=five 30-minute lessons)
  • Contact OCAC to signup

Preschool sessions, Pre-K swimmers (Age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.

  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make
  • Swim lessons are Monday-Thursday only
  • Friday will be used as a make-up day (as needed)
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees

Group Swim Lessons

Group swim lesson forms are available at www.osagecity.com, the City of Osage City Facebook Page (Photo Section), Osage City Hall and sent out by request. Forms and payment can be taken to Osage City Hall, 201 S. Fifth St., Osage City. Starting May 27, group swim lesson forms will be available at OCAC.


OCPR Summer Art Camps

Instructor Becky Weaver (USD 348 High School Art Instructor)

  • Camp Location – Osage City Community Building (Jones Park)
  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Art can be messy, Please dress appropriately
  • All of the projects will be available to take home
  • Both 2D and 3D work and projects may include painting, drawing, printing, clay
  • Pre-K: July 10-13, 11-11:30 a.m.; 20 per student
  • K-2nd Grade: July 10-13, 9-9:45 a.m.; $25 per student
  • 3rd-8th Grade: July 10-13, 10-10:45 a.m.; $25 per student

Youth Football Camp

Grade is based on the player’s grade in the 2017-2018 school year.

  • Kindergarten-6th grade, July 17-21, 7 p.m.; $20 per player

Gymnastics Camps

Instructor Danielle Hallgren (Competitive gymnast, 10 years, and gymnastics instructor, 5 years)

  • Camp Location – Osage City Community Building (Jones Park)
  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Stretching, gymnastic skills and technique, games, and safe equipment
  • No shoes or socks on the equipment (bare feet during class)
  • T-shirt tucked in or a shirt that stays down while upside down

Private Summer Lessons – $10 per student, per 30-minute session. Contact Danielle for your appointment

  • Toddler Camp (Age 2 and 3) – July 17-21, 3:30-4 p.m.; $25 per student. Limit 5 students.
  • Pre-K Camp (Age 4 and 5) – July 17-21, 3;30-4 p.m.; $25 per student. Limit 5 students.
  • K-2nd Grade Camp – July 17-21, 4-5 p.m.; $50 per student.
  • Advanced Camp – July 17-21, 5-6 p.m.; $50 per student.

Higher Power Yoga Camp

Yoga benefits: Improves flexibility, strength, and stamina; excellent recreational exercise; can supplement your sport’s training

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

  • A flowing, dynamic sequence of poses
  • Wear comfortable clothes
  • All levels are welcome (especially beginners)
  • Mats provided (Students are welcome to bring their own)
  • A child’s grade is their grade for the 2017-208 school year
  • 4th-6th Grade – July 24-28, 1-2 p.m.; $25 per student. Four students minimum and 15 students maximum
  • 7th-12th Grade – July 24-28, 2-3 p.m.; $25 per student. Four students minimum and 20 students maximum
  • Location – Osage City Community Building, 517 S. First St., Osage City
