LYNDON, Kan. – Virgil L. Silver, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. He was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in Burlingame, Kan. the son of Ralph and Lucille Hogle Silver.
Virgil grew up in Burlingame and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1945. In the late 1940s he moved with his family to Lyndon, Kan., where he has lived since. Virgil attended Clark Business School and then served in the United States Army with the 189th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean War. He farmed with his dad for several years and worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers at Forbes Field in Topeka and at Melvern Lake. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 125, the Masons of Euclid Lodge No. 101 A.F.&A.M. and the Lyndon United Methodist Church.
On Jan. 24, 1954, Virgil was married to Virginia Wark, in Lyndon. Virginia preceded Virgil in death on May 4, 1991. On Feb. 25, 1995, Virgil married Phyllis Peters, at Lamont Hill, Vassar, Kan.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; two children, Linda (Bill) Hurt, South Lake, Texas, and Jim (Marsha) Silver, McPherson, Kan.; two stepchildren, Sandra Lindsey, Wichita, Kan., and Mark Peters, Wakarusa, Kan.; a brother, Jerry (Ruth) Silver, Melvern, Kan.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 17, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial was in the Burlingame Cemetery.
