A Redfield, Kan., man was killed and his passenger was injured in a single car accident on U.S. Highway 75 near the Osage-Shawnee county line Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Eric S. Lucas, 56, Redfield, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on U.S. 75, just south of 117th Street in Osage County, around 1:25 p.m. June 27, 2017, when a tire blew out and the vehicle left the roadway on the east side and overturned in the ditch.
Lucas was ejected from the vehicle in the crash and died at the scene. His passenger, Amanda Clara Lucas, 53, Redfield, was injured in the accident and transported to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka.
The KHP report said Eric Lucas was not using a seatbelt at the time of the accident, but Amanda Lucas was wearing a seatbelt. The report said the Tahoe was pulling a trailer.
