Movies, yard sales, car show, picnic, parade: Lyndon plans summer of fun

Lyndon has a summer full of activities planned, with the first event to be held before summer officially begins. This Friday is the first of Lyndon Pride’s three-show summer movie series. The movie Hotel Transylvania will be shown at Lyndon City Park, with show time around dark. Movie-goers are invited to arrive about 8 p.m. to find a comfortable spot to set up lawn chairs to watch the movie in the open air. The shows are free, and candy, popcorn and beverages will be sold at the park. Music, contests and prizes will be offered for all ages.

The following weekend is set for Lyndon’s annual citywide garage sales. The June 22 event is sponsored by the Lyndon Lions. Anyone who wants to be included on a map of the sales should contact JoAnn Pouch at 785-828-3330. The deadline to sign up to be on the map is June 19.

Sellers can post free garage sale ads on Osage County News here.

Another event planned for the same day will likely bring more garage sale shoppers to town. The Lyndon United Methodist Church is hosting a car and motorcycle show in the city park.

The Get Rev’d Up Car and Motorcycle Show is expected to be even bigger than last year’s show, which had almost 100 vehicles on display. All makes and models or cars, trucks, vans, classics, muscles, antiques, street rods, rat rods or motorcycles are welcome.

Funds from show registrations and concessions will help support the church’s activities such as Bridges to the Future, Camp Chippewa, and preschool.

Breakfast, lunch and homemade ice cream will be offered at the car show. T-shirts will be available for purchase or can be pre-ordered to wear at the event.

For more information or to register for the show, contact Earl Detwiler at 785-828-4610 or Greg Thill at 785-828-3526.

The town is also planning a grand Fourth of July celebration, with a parade, pancake feed, community picnic, and free entrance to the Lyndon swimming pool.

Other show dates in the summer movie series are July 19 with Wreck-It Ralph, and an Aug. 9 showing of the Avengers. In case of rain, rescheduled dates and other information will be available at www.lyndonks.gov or by calling the city office at 785-828-3146.
