James Arthur Hamman, 76, Osage City: Jan. 12, 1941 – July 19, 2017

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – James Arthur Hamman, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home. He was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Emporia, Kan., the son of Marion Hamman and Bernice (Jones) Winter.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School, in Emporia. He had served in the National Guard and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad on the telegraph and switchboard for many years until he retired in 1992.

James was joined in marriage to Eda Van Horn, on Aug. 7, 1971, in Emporia. They would later divorce.

He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Brown, of Emporia; a son, Mark Hamman, Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Mary Chapman, Emporia; a brother, Harlan Hamman, Topeka, Kan., and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Hamman; and two stepfathers, Cecil Davis and Ben Winter.

Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, 107 W. Sixth St., Lebo, Kan.
