It’s fair time! The Overbrook Osage County Fair begins today, Wednesday, Aug. 9, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 12. The fair parade will be on Main Street at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Fire station open house
Osage County Fire District No. 4 will host an open house with games, food, fun and a blood drive 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.
Dog and animal control ordinance update
After discussion by the city council discussion in July, it was decided to review similar ordinances from other cities with the possibility of creating a new ordinance that includes humane treatment and animal husbandry conditions along with the number of dogs allowed per residence. More discussion will be held at the August city council meeting.
2018 city budget
The 2018 budget has been drafted and will be presented to Overbrook residents at a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, before the monthly council meeting.
Overbrook swimming pool
Update: Pool closed Aug. 11. The swimming pool closes for the season Saturday, Aug. 12, with a free swim day. Then, it’s “Dog Day at the Pool” noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, for a dogs only swim; no humans allowed.
Maintenance
City maintenance has completed repair of a foundation ground water leak at the corner of the library. A daylight drain installed under the sidewalk hopefully will fix the problem.
Street resurfacing where water line repairs have been made and pothole patching is planned for this month.
City Lake update
There has been no confirmation of additional development of blue-green algae in City Lake. A “watch” condition remains and state monitoring continues.
Open position on city planning and zoning board
Due to a resignation, a position on the planning and zoning board is available. Anyone interested in being a candidate should contact city hall.
Overbrook Park and Recreation
Fall youth soccer program signup will occur soon. Information will be available at city hall and on city Facebook page.
Overbrook Park and Recreation and Overbrook Rotary will host the kids fishing derby on Saturday, Sept. 9, with registration at 1 p.m. and fishing starting at 1:30 p.m. Bait will be provided. Parents can help, but kids must catch the fish.
Library news
Congratulations to Overbrook Public Library Director Kyle Sederstrom on his one-year anniversary on the job. The library provides many necessary and beneficial services to area residents.
Friends of the Library thanks everyone for a successful book sale in late July. Their next event is a soup dinner and dessert auction in the community room the evening of Sept. 23.
Police notes
Overbrook Police Department reminds drivers that as area schools reopen Aug. 22, school zones will be heavily monitored. New 20 mph speed limit signs are being installed on Sunset Lane, Elm Street, and Oak Street where it was a previously unmarked 30 mph.
Tree trimming – If your trees or shrubs that are causing traffic safety concerns, you might get a letter from the police department requesting they be trimmed or removed.
