Lara Nell Gragg Stout, 91, Quenemo: Nov. 16, 1925 – Aug. 29, 2017

QUENEMO, Kan. – Lara Nell Gragg Stout, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at the Kelly House, Meriden, Kan. She was born on Nov. 16, 1925, at home in rural La Harpe in Allen County, Kan., the daughter of Harry and Silva (Morrison) Smoot.

Lara Nell graduated from Iola High School in 1943, and then she went to work at Beech Aircraft Corp., in Wichita, Kan. While in Wichita, she completed the Red Cross nurse aide course and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Lara Nell was a member of the Quenemo United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and served as a 4-H leader for many years with her husband, Vernon. Lara Nell began as an Avon representative in 1969 and continued for 41 years. She also served on the Osage County Council on Aging, representing the Quenemo community and helped for many years on the Quenemo election board.

Lara Nell married Vernon Gragg, on Feb. 11, 1945,  in Gas, Kan. Vernon preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1977. She married Harold Stout, on July 4, 1982, in Quenemo, Kan. Harold preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2002.

Lara Nell was also preceded in death by two sons, Kent Leon Gragg and David Lee Gragg; two sisters, Fayette Walters and Eva Jean Catron; two brothers, Rex Smoot and Cecil Smoot; and a stepchild, Albert Stout.

Lara Nell is survived by three sons, Randy (Elizabeth) Gragg, Topeka, Kan., Dale Gragg, Hemet, Calif., and Aaron (Marla Wiens) Gragg, Topeka; daughter, Trudy Harris, Hemet, Calif.; sister, Crysta (Glenn) Harrington, Linwood, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Adrian (Lexi), Topeka, Andrea (Maselino) Isaia, Topeka, Sara Gragg, Merriam, Kan., Daniel Gragg, Topeka, Carrie Gragg, Emporia, Kan., Kimberly Toot, Ottawa, Kan., Derrick Gragg, Nashville, Tenn., and Damon Gragg, Manhattan; four great-grandchildren, Chance Gragg, Caden Gragg, Manaia Isaia and Taimane Isaia, all of Topeka; three stepchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Lara Nell will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Quenemo United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, at Quenemo. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial contributions to the Quenemo United Methodist Church, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
