Dean Gilbert Gardner, 91, Osage City: Feb. 12, 1926 – Aug. 23, 2017

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Dean Gilbert Gardner, 91, lifelong resident of Osage City, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Vintage Park of Osage City. He was born on Feb. 12, 1926, in Osage City, the son of Jess E. and Cecelia A. (Kiwitter) Gardner.

Dean was joined in marriage to Margarete Lammertz, on June 2, 1947, to this union three children were born, Sue, Linda and Cheryl. Margarete died on March 22, 1978. Dean later joined in marriage to Marjorie (Wixson) Chenoweth, on Oct. 2, 1978. She died on June 5, 2007.

Dean served in the United States Army during WWII. He had built, owned and operated Dean’s Drive-In and Dean’s Restaurant, in Osage City, for 37 years. He was a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church, and was active in the American Legion and Good Sam’s Camping Club. He had belonged to Kiwanis and Lions Club.

He will be forever remembered by his three daughters, Sue (Bob) Nordyke, of Silver Lake, Kan., Linda Colstrom, Lawrence, Kan., and Cheryl (Ron) Stiffler, Quenemo, Kan.; three step-daughters, Sandra Wilson, Billings, Mont., Joyce (Bill) Pitman, Osage City, and Judy (Bill) Martin, Topeka, Kan.; a stepson, Randy (Shannon) Chenoweth, Quenemo; a sister, Dorothy Barraclough, Topeka; and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Patricia Ann Gardner; brother, Dale Gardner; son-in-law, John Colstrom; stepson-in-law, Jerry Wilson; a step-grandchild, Jason Pittman, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Osage City First United Methodist Church, 219 S. Sixth St. Family will receive friends an hour before service. Burial will be at Osage City Cemetery.
