OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Carly Kathleen Cornelison, our free spirited, beautiful wild child, passed away on Sept. 15, 2017, following a car accident. Carly was born on April 17, 1996, and is survived by her parents Carrie and Joe Green.
Carly was the best mommy to her mini-me, her sweet daughter, Penelope Ann Sledd, and is now her guardian angel. Carly is also survived by her brothers, Taylor Scrivner, Lawrence, Kan., and John Green, Lyndon, Kan.; sister, Jolene Green, Lyndon; and her “favorite” grammy, Diane Threadgold, Topeka, Kan.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Carly graduated from Seaman High School, and she earned her CNA from Washburn Tech and her CMA from Allen County Community College. She was an amazing and compassionate caregiver to those she served. Carly had recently been working as a waitress, where she also served her clients with care.
Carly was an incredibly loving and devoted mother. Penelope was the center of her world. They would often go on dinner dates, hiking excursions, and would visit their many family members and friends. Carly loved to play games with Penelope, and she described her daughter as “my favorite little human.” It will now be up to Carly’s family and friends to ensure that Penelope knows the profound love her mother felt toward her and that she would never have wanted to leave her this soon.
Carly loved to be on the go, never staying in one place for long. She was an avid shopper, and as such, Penelope was a “best dressed” baby. She loved to LIVE, and always wanted to see her friends and family happy. Carly loved music of all genres, and you could hear her coming home from blocks away.
Carly was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Gary Shalz and Robert “Bob” Threadgold, and her great grandmother, Margie Dillon. We know they were there to greet her.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Penelope Ann Sledd Education Fund in care of Kaw Valley Banks or to the GoFundMe account at www.gofundme.com/carly-cornelison-memorial-fund. Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church.
