Keith R. Lewis, 72, Osage City: May 10, 1941-June 16, 2013

Keith R. Lewis, 72, of rural Osage City, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City.

Keith was born May 10, 1941, in Emporia, Kan., the son of Rees L. and Elva Grace Small. He graduated from Lebo High School in 1959. He continued his education at Emporia State University and received degrees in physical education and biology in 1967.

He was joined in marriage to Jane A. Sullivan on June 11, 1965, in Velma, Okla.

They lived in Emporia and Hartford the first two years of their marriage before moving to a farm north of Lebo. They left that farm due to the construction of Melvern Lake Dam in June 1970. Keith and Jane have lived the last 43 years at their farm east of Osage City.

Keith farmed in the Osage County area his entire life. He taught biology and physical education for five years at Melvern. He later taught biology at the Youth Correctional Facility in Topeka and worked as a substitute teacher throughout the 1990s.

Keith and Jane have been members of the Lyndon congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 40 years.

He will be especially missed by his wife Jane of the home; four sons, Todd (Linda) Lewis, Brooklyn, N.Y., Michael (Shelly) Lewis, Topeka, Kan., Timothy R. Lewis, Independence, Kan., and Matt Lewis, Osage City; a granddaughter, Ashley Lewis, Chicago, Ill.; his twin sister, Kay Ayers, Halstead, Kan.; a brother, Carl (Winnie) Lambeth, Osage City; and other family and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Lewis, on Aug. 26, 2000.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, north of Lyndon. Memorial contributions to a fund to be designated later may be sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. Sixth St., Osage City, Kansas 66523.
