Shirley L. Bingham, 76, Topeka: May 13, 1941 – Nov. 4, 2017

TOPEKA, Kan. – Shirley Louise Elledge Bingham, 76, of Topeka, Kan., died Nov. 4, 2017. She was born May 13, 1941, to DeLoss C. and Harriet L. (Bartee) Elledge, in Osage City, Kan. She was raised in Scranton, Kan. When she was 16, she moved to Topeka, where she met and married Robert M. Bingham on July 20, 1957. He preceded her in 1999.

She was the mother of Patricia Ann (Bingham) Bryan, Catherine Louise Bingham, Robert Clayton Bingham and Melvin DeWayne Bingham. Melvin died in 1984.

She worked for USD 501 for many years, at Topeka West High School and Highland Park High School in food service, and at Parkdale Elementary School and Sheldon Head Start School in the Head Start program.

Survivors include her children, Pati (Kent) Bryan, Cathie Bingham, and Bobby (Sherry) Bingham; grandchildren, Travis (Vicki) Bryan, Melvin E. Bingham, Gary Bingham, Alaire (Justin) Freeland, Nicholas Hartman, Jessica Bingham, and Joshua (Erika) Bingham; 17 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her son, Melvin, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy and Lenora; three sisters-in-law; and eight brothers-in-law.

Shirley was cremated and at her request no services are planned. A celebration of her life is being planned.
