CARBONDALE, Kan. – Virginia Alice Cunningham, 80, of Carbondale, Kan., passed away Nov. 1, 2017, at Nashville, Tenn. She was born May 7, 1937, in Augusta, Kan., the daughter of Ray W. Hartup and Alice Ann Green.
She grew up in the Augusta area and graduated from Augusta High School with the class of 1955. She was a nurse’s aide from 1964 to 1994 for the state and federal hospitals in Topeka, Kan., working in the psychological disorders department. From 1994 to this past August she was a self-employed housing and business cleaning service professional.
On May 4, 1957, Virginia was united in marriage with Robert E. Cunningham. He preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by four children, Cindy Lopez, Wichita, Kan., Ray Cunningham and his wife, Denise, Clarksville, Tenn., Carl Cunningham, Wichita, and David Cunningham and his wife, Ginger, Topeka; two brothers, Robert Hartup, Topeka, and Donald Hartup, Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Norman Cunningham, Wichita, Laura Cunningham, Wichita, Sara Young, Topeka, Kara Cunningham, Broken Arrow, Okla., Jason Chambers, Topeka, Codi Cunningham, Topeka, and Johnathan Cunningham, Fort Bragg, N.C.; and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, Overbrook. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Carbondale Cemetery.
