The stress of the holiday season can often bring additional pressure for families who have been torn apart by domestic violence, child abuse or neglect. To help make the holidays brighter for those troubled families, SOS offers the community the opportunity to “adopt” a family and provide basic needs and gifts. Families or individuals are eligible for adoption if they have worked with SOS consistently the last three months and do not qualify for assistance from the Salvation Army. Anyone is eligible to be matched with a family. With your community support, in 2016 SOS gave a little joy to more than families during the holidays within the six counties SOS serves: Osage, Chase, Lyon, Greenwood, Morris and Coffey.
When you adopt a family, you will receive a copy of the “wish list” they have filled out with the help of their SOS advocate. It will include genders and ages for all kids and parents in the household, sizes and some of their favorite items. Gifts should be left unwrapped and dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. anytime before Dec. 15, 2017, at the SOS administrative office, 618 Mechanic St., Emporia, Kan.
Anyone interested in adopting a family or individual or wish to donate money for gifts this holiday season can call SOS at 6203438799 or email tboyce@soskansas.com. The deadline to adopt is Friday, Dec. 1.
