Arvonia preservation society receives gift from Emporia foundation

The Arvonia Historic Preservation Society was a recipient of a generous gift – $9,914 – during the Emporia Area Match Day held last month.

Donations from 651 donors, $50,000 in matching funds, and $7,350 in sponsored prize grant support during the Nov. 13, 2017, event totaled $210,477.05. Distributions were made to 24 organizations on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Recipients included: Arvonia Historic Preservation Society, $9,914.00; Chase Children’s Fund, $8,913.84; Chase County Care & Compassion, $17,912.47; ECKAN, Lyon County, $8,907.89; Emporia Area Habitat for Humanity, $11,674.83; Emporia Celebrates the Flint Hills, $6,548.16; Emporia Eastside Community Group, $3,651.52; Emporia Municipal Band, $4,370.48; Emporia Senior Center, $4,969.38; Food for Students, $14,778.86; Friends of the Emporia Animal Shelter, $23,220.34; Friends of the Emporia Public Library – $8,123.45; Hispanics of Today & Tomorrow, $3,166.78; Keep It A Safe Summer Taskforce, $3,777.09; Lyon County Crime Stoppers, $2,758.39; Lyon County Department on Aging RSVP, $1,343.92; Military Care Packages, $3,018.92; Never Let Go Fund, $6,993.87; NLC Youth Association, $13,544.66; Pioneer Bluffs, $23,433.01; Sertoma Train, $4,250.61; Team Schnak, $19,325.87; What’s in Outdoors, $1,567.98; William Allen White Community Partnership, $4,310.73.

This year’s Match Day again featured prize competitions throughout the day, such as breakfast bonus, midday motivation, happy hour awards, the organization with the largest increase in donors from last year, mystery shopper awards and many others. As has been the case for the past two years, local businesses and individuals provided donations for the prize money or to assist in other ways.

Funding partners included Clint Bowyer’s 79 Fund, Hopkins, Reeble & Trusler Foundations and W.S. & E.C. Jones Testamentary Trust.
