OSAGE CITY, Kan. – An Osage City man died Friday afternoon in a single-car rollover accident south of Topeka on U.S. Highway 75.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Harold E. Poertner, 73, Osage City, was traveling northbound on U.S. 75 north of 57th Street around 12:55 p.m. Dec. 29, 2017, when his 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup left the roadway to the right, entering the ditch. KHP said Poertner then swerved left and attempted to enter the roadway, and then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to spin. The pickup slid sideways across the northbound lanes, entering the median and overturning several times before coming to rest in the west ditch of the southbound lanes.

Poertner died at the scene. The report said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
