Kindergarten roundup

Overbrook Attendance Center will be holding its kindergarten roundup 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018. Parents should call Overbrook Attendance Center in advance at 785-665-7135. Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to attend kindergarten next school year.

Friends of the Library

Everyone is invited to the Overbrook Friends of the Library meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the conference room at the library. Attendees can find out the latest happenings, such as the book sale coming in July, and offer ideas for future projects. For more information, contact Carol Baughman at 785-665-7180.

Overbrook PRIDE

Overbrook PRIDE needs your support and invites all to attend the monthly meeting at 8 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at the American Legion Hall, 102 Maple St. PRIDE sponsors a plant sale and the citywide garage sales each April, hosts the fireworks display each July, plants and cares for the petunias downtown, and has accomplished several projects at Jones Park. Everyone is invited to join in efforts to make the Overbrook community a wonderful place to live.

PRIDE plant sale

Come buy your plants for your flower and vegetable gardens at the PRIDE plant sale Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, at the old high school gym. This sale coincides with Overbrook’s citywide garage sales.

Citywide garage sales

On Saturday, April 28th, Overbrook PRIDE will sponsor Overbrook’s 25th annual citywide garage sales. Maps will be available Friday, April 27, at Casey’s General Store, the Kansas State Bank, the First Security Bank and all sponsoring locations. A map can also be downloaded from the Overbrook Pride Facebook page. For more information, contact city hall.

Sew Much Fun

Overbrook Public Library is sponsoring a sewing event. Learn basic sewing techniques while creating your very own custom heating pad. Hattie Lee will teach you about straight seams, turning, filling, and top stitching. Bring your own sewing machine and supplies at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Overbrook Public Library.

Local author reading

Overbrook resident, Anna Hefley, will be reading and signing her new children’s book “I Love You Bigger Than the World” at a launch event in the Overbrook Public Library children’s area at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21.

Free lunch on NAPA

NAPA Auto Parts, 105 S. Maple, Overbrook, is sponsoring a free hamburger and hot dog lunch starting at 11 a.m. April 18, to thank their patrons for their support.

Planning and zoning

If you are planning new homes, new remodeling projects, home addition, new fences, or new storage sheds, this spring or summer, please check with city hall at 785-665-7328 to ensure that your project is in compliance with the current city zoning ordinance. Most projects of this kind require a building permit before construction or renovation begins. The city clerk or the city zoning administrator can answer or find an answer to any question related to zoning requirements.

Citywide limb pickup

Rotary Club volunteers will pick up limbs on Saturday, April 21. Limbs must be cut to a manageable size and stacked at curbside. Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the Kansas State Bank parking lot. If you burn leaves, check with city hall for burn bans before you burn.

Santa Fe Trail High School Green Team e-waste recycling in May

On Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (or until the truck is full), electronic components can be dropped off at the high school east parking lot. This is a free service except for a $15 charge for any TV that is not a flat screen. For more information contact Shelly Robinson at [email protected]
