OCPR Update: Lifeguard training, swim lessons, tee-ball, summer camps

OCPR-logo-redSpring is here and Osage City Parks and Recreation is working on getting the Osage City Aquatic Center ready for summer fun. Signups for lifeguard and CPR training are due soon, along with tee-ball, S.T.E.A.M. camps, and summer art camp.

OCPR Tee-Ball
For children age 3, 4, 5.

  • Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2018, to participate.
  • Cost is $20 per player.
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program. Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A Head Coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 4.
  • Teams play 6 games, game dates are TBD, based on the number of teams participating.
  • Game times are 6pm or 7pm.
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.

  • Students will be expected to complete 7 class hours online
  • Includes first aid & CPR
  • Attendance required each day
  • Must be 15 to take the class

Osage City Swim Team
For swimmers age 6-18, a swimmers age is their age on or before June 23, 2018.

Swim Team Prerequisite

  • MUST be able to swim the length of the OCAC pool WITHOUT stopping.
  • MUST have completed Level 3 Red Cross swim lessons
  • Swim team practice starts the week of June 4
  • Meet schedule, June 23-July 21
  • Overbrook, Lebo, Lyndon, Burlington, and Osage City

Swim team parent/swimmer meeting

  • May 6, 6pm, OCAC
  • Mandatory meeting for both parents and swimmers
  • Swim suit sizes and shirt/tank top sizes will be taken
  • Anyone not able to attend MUST meet with Letisha DeBaun prior to their first practice
  • Fee, $60 per swimmer
  • “Practice Swimmers” only, $30 per swimmer

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Session One, June 18-28

  • 10-10:45am, Preschool, Level 1, Level 3
  • 11-11:45, Preschool, Level 2, Level 5

Signup deadline, June 11

Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Session Two, July 9-19

  • 9-9:45am, Level 1 (Must be 6 years old)
  • 10-10:45am, Preschool, Level 3, Level 4
  • 11-11:45, Preschool, Level 2, Guard Start
  • 12-12:30, Parent tot (6 months-2 years)

Signup deadline, July 2.

Cost is $25 per swimmer per session


Private Lessons

  • Session 1, June 11-15, AM Only
  • Session 2, July 2-6, AM Only
  • OCAC staff will contact you about a time during the session selected.
  • Other times may be available (contact OCAC).
  • $40 per week (One Week=Five 30-Minute Lessons).
  • Contact OCAC (Starting May 26) to signup.
  • Pre-School Sessions, Pre-K Swimmers (Age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make.
  • Swim lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY.
  • Friday will be used as a make-up day as needed.
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees.

Private Swim Lessons

  • Contact OCAC starting May 26 for a private swim lesson form.

Group Swim Lessons

Group swim lesson forms are available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page (Photos Section) and Osage City Hall. Starting May 26, group swim lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

  • May 26-August 5, Monday-Friday, 1-7pm, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6pm.
  • August 6-Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6pm (includes Labor Day).

Daily admission, $3 (age 4 & above); age 3 & below FREE; age 65 & over FREE.

OCAC Swim Pass Booklets

Swim booklets can be purchased at Osage City Hall (May 22-26). Starting May 26, swim booklets will be on sale at OCAC. 50 swim card booklet, $50.

Deck and pool rental reservation can be made with Corey Linton before May 26.


S.T.E.A.M Camp
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music

  • Camp date, June 11-15

OCPR Summer Art Camps

  • Camp dates, June 18-22
  • Camp location – Osage City Community Building (517 South 1st St., Osage City)
  • Cost, $25 per student
  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Art can be messy, please dress appropriately.
  • All of the projects will be available to take home.
  • Both 2D and 3D work and projects may include, painting, drawing, printing, clay.

K-2nd grade, 9-9:45am

  • Pre-K students are welcome in the K-2nd grade session.
  • A parent MUST stay to assist their Pre-K student.
  • 3rd-8th grade, 10-10:45am.
