OCPR Update: Swimming season is almost here

OCPR-logo-redSpring is here and summer is right around the corner as Osage City Parks and Recreation gets the pool ready for swimming, swimming lessons, and having fun. Also in the works are STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, music) camps, art camps and tackle football. Here is OCPR’s latest update:

Osage City Swim Team

For swimmers age 6-18, a swimmer’s age is their age on or before June 23, 2018.

  • Swim team pre-requisite: MUST be able to swim the length of the OCAC pool WITHOUT stopping; MUST have completed Level 3 Red Cross swim lessons.
  • Swim Team practice starts the week of June 4.
  • Meet schedule, June 23-July 21.
  • Overbrook, Lebo, Lyndon, Burlington, and Osage City.
  • Fee, $60 per swimmer.
  • “Practice Swimmers” only, $30 per swimmer.

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Session One, June 18-28

  • 10-10:45 a.m., pre-school, Level 1, Level 3.
  • 11-11:45, pre-school, Level 2, Level 5.
  • Signup deadline, June 11.
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session.

Session Two, July 9-19.

  • 9-9:45 a.m., Level 1 (Must be 6 yrs old).
  • 10-10:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 3, Level 4.
  • 11-11:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 2, Guard Start.
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 months-2 Years).
  • Signup deadline, July 2.
  • Cost is $25 per swimmer per session.

Private Lessons

  • Session 1, June 11-15, a.m. only.
  • Session 2, July 2-6, a.m. only.
  • OCAC staff will contact you about a time during the session selected.
  • Other times may be available (Contact OCAC).
  • $40 per week (one week equals five 30-minute lessons)
  • Contact OCAC (starting May 26) to signup
  • Pre-School Sessions, Pre-K Swimmers (Age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make.
  • Swim lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY.
  • Friday will be used as a make-up day as needed.
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees.

Private Swim Lessons

  • Contact OCAC starting May 26 for a private swim lesson form.

Group Swim Lessons

  • Group swim lesson forms are available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page (Photos Section) and Osage City Hall.
  • Starting May 26, group swim lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

Osage City Aquatic Center

  • OCAC Pool Hours: May 26-August 5, Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
  • August 6 – Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day).
  • Daily admission, $3 (age 4 and above); age 3 and below FREE; age 65 and over FREE.

OCAC Swim Pass Booklets

  • Swim booklets can be purchased at Osage City Hall, May 22-26.
  • Starting May 26, swim booklets will be on sale at OCAC.
  • 50 Swim Card Booklet, $50.
  • Deck and pool rental reservation can be made with Corey Linton before to May 26.

Water Aerobics

  • Osage City Aquatics Center
  • Instructor, Marcy DeWitt
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-8 p.m.
  • Week of June 4 through the week of July 30.
  • $3 per class or 1 swim card.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music

  • Camp date, June 11-15
  • Camp location, Osage City Community Building, 517 S. First St., Osage City.
  • Camp teachers, Diane Vaughn, Collene Stucky, Kylie Baxter

Children will learn: To work successfully in teams, how to solve problems, develop critical thinking skills, self-confidence.

Age 4 and 5

  • 10:30-11 a.m.
  • $30 per student
  • Bubble Day, Art Day, Engineering Day, Water Day, STEAM Stations

1st and 2nd grade

  • 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
  • $40 per student
  • Robotics Day, Art Day, Engineering Day, Water Day, Bubble Day

3rd-6th grade

  • 9-9:45 a.m.
  • $40 per student
  • Robotics Day (2), Art Day, Water Day, Balloon Day

OCPR Summer Art Camps

Instructor, Becky Weaver, USD 348 high school art instructor.

  • Camp dates, June 18-22
  • Camp location, Osage City Community Building, 517 S. First St., Osage City.
  • Cost, $25 per student
  • A child’s grade is based on their grade for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Art can be messy, Please dress appropriately.
  • All of the projects will be available to take home.
  • Both 2D and 3D work and projects may include painting, drawing, printing, and clay.
  • K-2nd Grade, 9-9:45 a.m.
  • Pre-K students are welcome in the K-2nd grade session.
  • A parent MUST stay to assist their Pre-K student.
  • 3rd-8th Grade, 10-10:45 a.m.

Signup deadline, June 8.

Osage City Tackle Football

  • USD 420 students (2018-2019 school year)
  • 3rd/4th Grade and 5th/6th Grade
  • Signup day, June 3, OCPR office.
  • 3rd/4th Grade, 6:30 p.m.
  • 5th/6th Grade, 7 p.m.
  • Cost: 3rd/4th grade, $50; 5th/6th grade, $75.
