Melba Arlene Bradshaw, 74, Vassar; June 22, 1939-June 22, 2013

VASSAR-Melba Arlene Bradshaw, 74, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, with her family by her side at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was born on June 22, 1939, near Lyndon, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel Sanderson Stadel.

Arlene graduated from Quenemo High School in 1956. She had lived in Quenemo, Horton and McPherson before moving to the Pomona Lake area in 1993.

In addition to being a full-time mom, Arlene worked as a legal secretary and as a secretary in the Jensen Insurance Agency and Welton Insurance Agency in Horton and then the Farmers Alliance Insurance Agency in McPherson. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

On Feb. 17, 1957, Arlene was united in marriage to David Bradshaw, in Quenemo.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lawrence Stadel, an infant brother, Harold Stadel, and two infant sisters, Anna Stadel and Frankie Stadel.

Arlene is survived by her husband David of the home; her three children, Brice Bradshaw (Laurie) of Leawood, Casi Bradshaw (Jason) of Bonner Springs, and Erika Bradshaw (David) of Lyndon; a foster son, Dan McAlexander of Chesapeake, Va.; and four grandchildren, Kobe, Addison, Sophea and Brodye.

A celebration of Arlene’s life will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Vassar United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time at the church with a reception following services. Inurnment will be at the Lyndon Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-America Heart Foundation, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
