Michael E. Stewart, 60, Overbrook: Jan. 7, 1958 – Sept. 20, 2018

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Michael E. Stewart, 60, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at the Topeka VA Hospital. Michael was born Jan. 7, 1958, in Topeka, Kan., the son of James and Judith Miller Stewart.

He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1976, where he was Kansas State Pole Vaulting Champion and participated in gymnastics. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Persian Gulf War. Michael worked for Stewart Masonry and later Brick Masters Inc.

He married Betty Stavlenich, on June 9, 1984, in Topeka.

Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of more than 34 years, Betty Stewart; his mother, Judith Stewart, Topeka; a son, Drake Stewart, Overbrook; three daughters, Vania (Jeffrey) Grittman, Overbrook, Jayne (Michael Harris) Stewart, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and LeiLoni (Tanner Stearman) Stewart, Topeka; two brothers, Lee Stewart and Robert James Stewart, both of Topeka; two sisters, Robin Blanshan, Topeka, and Leslie Patterson, Centerton, Ark.; and three grandchildren, Abbigail, Ziven and Abilene.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka. Visitation will be 12-1:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka. See davidsonfuneral.com.
