Melvern Fall Festival: Festive, but with a touch of spookiness

Frost on the ground and chill in the night air mean fall is here, and Melvern is celebrating the season change with a community festival this Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. Famous for its Halloween spookiness, Melvern will scare up some family fun with haunted hayrack rides this year. The day gets underway with a craft fair at 3 p.m., followed shortly afterward by a Halloween costume parade for kids up to fifth graders. In addition to haunted rides through the countryside, evening fun includes the Dirt Grass Canyon Band performing live in the Melvern Community Building. Here’s the schedule for the day:

Craft Fair

The craft fair will be held at the Melvern Community Center 3-7 p.m. Booths set up at noon Saturday. Anyone interested in having a craft booth should contact Nancy Miller at 785-215-0887.

Halloween Costume Parade – Trunk or Treat

At 3:45 p.m., preschool-fifth grade costume parade followed by trunk or treat, located on the south side of the community center. After the trunk or treat, a hayride is provided for those kids that are dressed up for the Halloween costume parade. All kids third grade and younger going on the hayrack ride must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To participate in the trunk or treat, contact Lisa Litch or Dan Bowers.

Soup Supper

The Melvern Pride will have a soup supper at the Melvern Community Center 5:30-7 p.m. The menu for the evening is chicken noodle soup, ham and beans, chili and cornbread. Freewill donation accepted.

Silent Auction

A fall festival silent auction will be 3-10 p.m. at the Melvern Community Center. Anyone who would like to donate an item for the silent auction is asked to contact Dan Bowers at 785-249-7811.

Haunted Hayrack Ride

The hayrack ride is scheduled to run from 7-9 p.m. Saturday evening. The first hayrack trailer leaves the Melvern Community Center at 7 p.m. Anyone who would like to help with the haunted hayrack ride should contact Lisa Litch at 785-549-3676. Rides will be cancelled if it is raining. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Live Music

The Dirt Grass Canyon Band will perform live from 8-11 p.m. in the Melvern Community Center. Freewill donations accepted.

All proceeds from the Melvern Fall Festival will go to support community organizations.
