Katherine Shanks, 93, Topeka: Dec. 23, 1924 – Nov. 18, 2018

TOPEKA, Kan. – Katherine Shanks, 93, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Lexington Park Nursing Home, Topeka, Kan. She was born on Dec. 23, 1924, in Mandan, N.D., the daughter of John and Flora Friedt Eckroth.

Katherine had lived in Lyndon, Kan., for many years and had been at Lexington Park for the last year.

Katherine worked as a nurse’s aide at Hilltop Nursing Home, in Lyndon, for many years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, in Topeka.

On March 6, 1948, Katherine was married to James Shanks, in Yakima, Wash.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, James, on May 29, 1980; her parents, John and Flora; two sons-in-law, Ed Cobb and Bob Pinnock; three brothers, Philip Eckroth, John Eckroth and Joseph Eckroth; and four sisters, Monica Paul, Francis Paul, Eva Brady and Beatrice Charvat.

Katherine is survived by two sons, Jim (Glenda) Shanks, of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ron (Karen) Shanks, Topeka; four daughters, Debra Pinnock, Camdenton, Mo., Cheryl Cobb, Topeka, Judy (Mark) Brecheisen, Wichita, Kan., and Linda (Mike) Holston, Mayetta, Kan.; brother, Gary (Ginny) Eckroth, of Maine; three sisters, Hilda Henry, of Oregon, and Margaret Paul and Judy (Glenn) Thiel, both of North Dakota; and 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
