It’s at the fair! Pie bakers to compete for prizes, bragging rights

070213pieWith one county fair past, that leaves two more for this summer in Osage County. The next one is the Osage County Fair next week at Osage City, July 11-13.

The Osage City Chamber of Commerce is encouraging all pie bakers to start warming up their ovens to get ready for the annual pie baking contest.

Only fruit or berry pies will be accepted in the contest; pie dough and fillings should be made from scratch. Safe food handling precautions should be followed and pies are to be entered in a disposal pie pan.

Entries will be accepted from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Osage City Parks and Recreation building. Prizes will be given for first place, $20 in Chamber Bucks, second place, $10 in Chamber Bucks, and third place, $5 in Chamber Bucks.

Judging will begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed at approximately 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction for the pies. Everyone is encouraged to bid on a favorite pie to take home for a late evening dessert after a busy day at the fair and an evening at the carnival.
