Osage City’s barbecue contest featured on national television

SITS_10ANNIV_BLACK_webThe BBQ Pitmasters television show filmed during Osage City’s Smoke in the Spring State BBQ Championship in April will air the episode at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, on Destination America. The episode is titled “Kicking It in KC”.

BBQ Pitmasters, a hit series on Destination America, set up its stage in Jones Park the day before the barbecue festivities began in Osage City. With Smoke in the Spring as the backdrop, the television show featured three selected barbecue teams competing for one prize. The public was welcomed to watch Pitmasters’ activities during the three days the film crew was in the county. After the contest, Pitmasters also explored Kansas barbecue further than Osage County as it visited two barbecue restaurants, one in Emporia and another in Topeka.

The episode filmed in Osage County is part of a 13-episode series.

Destination America is channel 194 on Dish Network, but check your own local listings to find the correct channel in your area.

The episode will rerun at 11 p.m. July 7; 3 a.m. July 8; 8 p.m. July 11; and 7 p.m. July 14. The show will likely be shown again at later dates.
