RCIL to host ADA anniversary celebration

OSAGE CITY-The Resource Center for Independent Living will be celebrating the 23rd Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at several events and locations throughout the month of July.

The celebrations will coincide with monthly RCIL Friends group meetings and include free hot dogs and additional information about the ADA. One of the planned events will be 12:30 p.m. July 12 at Park Place Apartments, Sixth and Main, Osage City. The public is invited to attend.

“We hope to help bring awareness to the importance of the ADA and other legislation that places value on the lives and contributions of persons with disabilities,” said Adam Burnett, RCIL director of core services.

When President Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law – the world’s first comprehensive civil rights law for people with disabilities – in front of 3,000 people on the White House lawn on July 26, 1990, the event represented an historical benchmark and a milestone in America’s commitment to full and equal opportunity for all of its citizens.
