LYNDON, Kan. – Eloise McGeeney, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at her home in Lyndon, Kan. She was born on June 15, 1929, in Hiawatha, Kan., the daughter of James and Eva Nigus Jones.
Eloise had lived in Hiawatha for many years before moving to Lyndon. She had worked as a beautician, was owner and bookkeeper of Carpenter Drug Store with her husband Glenn, and had worked for the Brown County Treasurer’s Office. She was owner and bookkeeper of McGeeney Furniture and McGeeney Moving & Storage with her husband Bob. She then worked as a comptroller at Lire Inc. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hiawatha and attended the Lyndon United Methodist Church.
Eloise was married to Glenn Carpenter. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1970. Eloise married Robert McGeeney on Sept. 21, 1973, in Hiawatha.
Eloise was preceded in death by her daughter, Elysa Lovelady; step-daughter, Kathy Blair; parents, James and Eva; brother, Jim Jones; and her two sisters, Rosalie Robertson and Darlene Head.
Eloise is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; son, Scott (Jeri) Carpenter, New Strawn, Kan.; two daughters, Angela Wright, Kansas City, Mo., and Denise (Rick) Chaffee, Overland Park, Kan.; stepson, Mark McGeeney, Theodosia, Mo.; brother, Billy Jones, Seminole, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Ben (Amy) Wright, Sam (Yuki) Wright, Jason Chaffee, Cassandra Lovelady, Jared Lovelady, Zachary Carpenter, Sheigh (Joel) Ormord, and Tyler Carpenter; and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends 10:30 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, at a later date.
