OCPR Update: Swimming, singing and ‘S.T.E.A.M.ing’ into spring

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation will have you swimming, singing and “S.T.E.A.M.ing” into springtime with the upcoming schedule of activities. Also, get ready to “tee-off” for tee ball.


Lifeguard Training – WSI Certification Lifeguard/CPR Recertification

Lifeguard Training

  • May 22, 4-6 p.m. (Pre-Requisite Skills Test); May 23, 6-8 p.m.; May 24, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; May 25, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; May 26, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $150.
  • Instructor, Jordan Tice and Lynn Tice.
  • Students will be expected to complete 7 class hours online.
  • Includes First Aid & CPR.
  • Attendance required each day.
  • Must be 15 to take the class.

Sign up deadline May 6.

WSI Certification

  • May 29-31, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • June 3-7, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Cost is $150.

  • Must be 16 to take the class.
  • Sign up deadline May 13.

Lifeguard Re-Certification (w/CPR)

  • May 11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Cost is $70.

  • Deadline is May 6.

Osage City Swim Team

For Swimmers age 6-18, a swimmers age is their age on or before June 22, 2019.

  • Swim Team Pre-Requisite: MUST be able to swim the length of the OCAC Pool WITHOUT assistance. MUST have Completed Level 3 Red Cross Swim Lessons.
  • Swim Team Practice Starts the week of June 10.
  • Meet Schedule, June 22-July 20.
  • Overbrook, Lebo, Lyndon, Burlington, and Osage City.

Swim Team Parent/Swimmer Meeting

  • May 5, 6 p.m., OCAC.
  • Mandatory meeting for both parents and swimmers.
  • Swim suit sizes and shirt/tank top sizes will be taken.
  • Anyone not able to attend MUST meet with Letisha DeBaun prior to their first practice.

OCAC Swim Camp

  • June 3-7
  • 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
  • $10 per swimmer
  • Swimmers will focus on One Stroke per day
  • June 7, Swim Team Open Tryout Day (Open to Any Swimmer)
  • Fee, $60 per swimmer
  • “Practice Swimmers” Only, $30 per swimmer

OCPR Tee-Ball

  • For children age 3, 4, 5. Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2019 to participate
  • Cost is $20 per player.
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program. Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A Head Coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 3. Game dates are TBD, and number of games are based on the number of teams participating.
  • Game times are 6 p.m. or 7 p.m..
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.

Signup deadline, May 10.

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Session One, June 17-27

  • 10-10:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 1, Level 3
  • 11-11:45, Pre-School, Level 2, Level 5
  • Signup deadline, June 10.

Cost is $25 per swimmer per session.

Session Two, July 8-18

  • 10-10:45 a.m., Level 1, Level 3, Level 4
  • 11-11:45, Pre-School, Level 2, Guard Start
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 mon-2 Yrs)
  • Signup deadline, July 1

Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Private Lessons

  • Session One, June 10-14, AM Only
  • Session Two, July 1-5, AM Only
  • OCAC Staff will contact you about a time during the session selected.
  • Other times may be available (Contact OCAC).
  • $40 per week (One Week=Five 30-Minute Lessons).
  • Contact OCAC (Starting May 25) to signup.
  • Pre-School Sessions, Pre-K Swimmers (Age 3-5) will be evaluated their first session and then placed in the appropriate group.
  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make.
  • Swim Lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY. Friday will be used as a make-up day as needed.
  • Lessons will not be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees.
  • Contact OCAC starting May 25 for a Private Swim Lesson Form.

Group Swim Lessons

Group Swim Lesson Forms are available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page (Photos Section) and Osage City Hall. Starting May 25, Group Swim Lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

  • May 25-August 4, Monday-Friday, 1-7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.
  • August 5-Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day).
  • Daily Admission, $3 (age 4 & above); age 3 & below FREE; age 65 & over FREE.

OCAC Swim Pass Booklets

  • Swim Booklets can be purchased at Osage City Hall May 20-24. Starting May 25, Swim Booklets will be on sale at Osage City Aquatic Center.
  • 50 Swim Card Booklet, $50.
  • Deck and Pool Rental Reservation can be made with Corey Linton before May 25.

S.T.E.A.M CAMP
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music

  • Camp Date, May 28-31
  • Camp Location, Osage City Elementary School (west entrance).
  • Camp Teachers, Diane Vaughn, Collene Stucky, Kylie Baxter.
  • Students grade is based on the 2019-2020 school year.

Children will learn: To work successfully in teams, how to solve problems, develop critical thinking skills, self-confidence

Daily Themes: Mystery Day, Electricity Day, Food/Robot Day, Maze Day

  • Age 4-5, 8:30-9 a.m., $30 per student.
  • Limit 15 students.
  • 1st-3rd Grade, 9:15-10:15 a.m., $40 per student.
  • Limit 25 students.
  • 4th-6th Grade, 10:30-11:30 a.m., $40 per student.
  • Limit 25 students.

Willy Wonk Jr. Musical Camp

  • Casting sessions (3rd-6th grade)
  • June 10, 6:30 p.m., OCHS Auditorium
  • June 11, 2 p.m., OCHS Auditorium
  • 3rd-6th grade students MUST attend one casting session.
  • Students should prepare to sing a short song.
  • Students will be given a book and CD to memorize their parts prior to camp week.

Musical Camp

  • July 22-26
  • Pre-K-2nd Grade, 10-11 a.m., OCHS Auditorium, $20 per student
  • 3rd-6th Grade, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., OCHS Auditorium, $30 per student
  • Students need to bring a sack lunch each day; snack provided.
