Roger K. Frakes, 77, Valley Falls: Dec. 20, 1941 – Aug. 27, 2019

VALLEY FALLS, Kan. – Roger K. Frakes, 77, Valley Falls, Kan., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at his home. He was born Dec. 20, 1941, at Valley Falls, the son of Raymond C. and Ruth Smith Frakes.

He graduated from Effingham High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy, and attained the rank of second class petty officer. Roger retired in 1991 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 27 years of service. He was a manager at their network service department in Topeka.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Valley Falls, and a member of American Legion Post 225 at Ozawkie. Roger enjoyed doing many woodworking projects. He loved to travel, fish and spend time with his family.

Roger married Katherine Shell, Feb. 24, 1968, at Valley Falls, and they shared 51 loving years together.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy, of the home; two sons, Willard Frakes, Neosho Rapids, Kan., and Charles Frakes, Nortonville, Kan.; a daughter, Lynette (Shawn) Valentine, Osage City, Kan.; a sister, Patricia Jackson, Valley Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur “Bud” Frakes, and Ronald Frakes.

Funeral service was Sept. 3, at Mercer Funeral Home, Valley Falls. Burial was with military honors by Grahem-Herbers Post 3084, Veterans of Foreign Wars at the Valley Falls Cemetery.
