Senior center sets up market on Market Street

By Tammy Fager, Director

Last week was a very busy week with getting ready for the Osage County Community Resource and Health Fair, Saturday. We had a good turn out from the vendors and the public. A number of people won nice door prizes.

The Lions Club provided biscuits and gravy – it was delicious, as well as the chicken and noodle lunch the senior center served. All proceeds were donated to the Osage County Senior Center. A big thanks to Jan Ogleby, who fixed the chicken and noodles, Lois Butel, Mary Sexton, Judy Downey, Mary Treinen, and Warren Gunderman for all their work in the kitchen and serving, all the senior center participants who donated deserts, and anyone else that I may have left out.

This coming week we have our normal activities as well as the thrift sale, today, Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21. We have all kinds of items, from household, to clothes, toys and furniture and everything in between.

The Sewing Chicks, who meet at the center, not only sew and make lap quilts,  walker bags, tote bags, pillows and many other items, they donate and sell all of their items. The first of October a box will be placed out for donations for chemo caps for those in need. The chemo caps are all donated – for anyone that would be interested in helping make these, the group has yarn and patterns. If you or know of anyone that is in need of a cap, let the Chicks know. Anyone interested in making scarves? This would be great also.  Also, Threads Around the Table meet at 1 p.m. Wednesdays, for those who like to visit while they work. For anyone interested in helping, the Sewing Chicks are at the center 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. In addition to selling their items, group members also offer yarn for others’ projects in exchange for a small donation. The Sewing Chicks thank all of those that do come in and buy their items.

Monday, Sept. 23, is the official first day of autumn. Fall will officially be here – a good time to stop by the Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., Osage City, Kan. For more information, call 785-528-1170.
