OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Cora Mae Briggs, 94, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kan. She went peacefully home to the Lord surrounded by her family. Cora Mae Regnier was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Offerle, Kan., the daughter of Peter and Martha (Burkhart) Regnier.
She graduated from St. Teresa Catholic High School, Hutchinson, Kan.
She was joined in marriage to Charles Alvin Briggs on May 26, 1951, in Hodgeman County, Kan. Four sons and four daughters were born from this union.
She was a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to her eight children.
Cora Mae was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, in Osage City, Kan. She was a homemaker for 20 years before working at Hallmark Cards for 15 years. In retirement, Cora Mae enjoyed traveling with her husband, volunteering for her church and community, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Cora Mae will be forever remembered by her eight children, Jim (Mary) Briggs, of Baldwin City, Kan., Gary Briggs, Osage City, Tom (Parniece) Briggs, Madill, Okla., Jeannie (Bryan) Caswell, Olathe, Kan., Janice (Bruce) Turner, Eudora, Kan., Mike (Kathy) Briggs, Smithville, Mo., Judy (Kevin) Hiskey, Lenexa, Kan, and Janie Warren, Wamego, Kan.; and 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Other survivors include her two sisters-in-law, Arlene Peters and Norma Jean Harper, both of Topeka, Kan., and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 309 S. Sixth St., Osage City. She will lie in state 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the church. Family will receive friends after the rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the church hall.
