Shirley Ann Karr, 83, Overbrook: Feb. 4, 1936 – Oct. 4, 2019

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Shirley Ann Karr, 83, Overbrook, Kan., passed away Oct. 4, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kan. She was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of James Knowles and Sarah Frances (Cox) Knowles.

Shirley grew up in Kansas City, and graduated from Argentine High School with the class of 1954.

On Aug. 8, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Dan Karr, at Emerson Park Christian Church, Kansas City, Kan.

Shirley was a lifelong homemaker and housewife. She was devoted to her family and making sure they all had anything they needed for their day. She was proud of her family and their accomplishments.

Shirley was a member of the Searchlight Club, Overbrook PRIDE, Topeka Genealogy Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary, of Overbrook.

Shirley is survived by three children, Diane Lang and her husband, Tom, Michigan Valley, Kan., Brett Karr, Overbrook, Linda Garhart and her husband, Jeff, Owasso, Okla.; a sister, Joyce Gnefkow, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Jacob, Michael, Dustin, Taren, MaKenzie, Ashley, Nicholas; and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Wanda Miller and Ruby Stroud.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Overbrook United Methodist Church, 1005 Maple St., Overbrook. Interment will follow at Overbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the church.
