Robert ‘Bob’ James Inman, 84, Berryton: April 8, 1935 – Oct. 16, 2019

BERRYTON, Kan. – Robert “Bob” James Inman, 84, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019, at his home in Berryton, Kan. Bob was born April 8, 1935, in Fresno, Calif., the son of Elmer and Bernice (Grondona) Carrier.

He graduated from Burlingame High School in 1953. He later attended the University of Oklahoma and Washburn University and served in the U.S. Army.

He married Paula L. Kieffer April 11, 1965, in Tecumseh, Kan. She preceded Bob in death on Oct. 13, 2019.

Bob worked for the Shawnee County Sheriff’s office where he served as undersheriff under Jim Chaffee and Ed Ritchie, retiring as major. He was the first major appointed to the department. Upon retirement, Bob worked three years with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in lake patrol. He was also Sergeant at Arms for the Kansas State Legislature for 11 years. Bob was a member of Topeka Masonic Lodge and Topeka Arab Temple for 40 years. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock hunting, metal detecting and was skilled at lapidary and metal work. He enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, competitive shooting, archery, darts and hosting fish fries.

He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Marion Kieffer.

He is survived by two sons, Allan Inman, Overbrook, Kan., and Rod (Jennifer) Inman, Peculiar, Mo.; a daughter, Debbie (David) Parks, Mayetta, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Gale Kieffer, Topeka; sister-in-law, Janice Kieffer, Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, James (Christine), Andrew (Taylor), Miles, Hannah, Cassidy, Haileigh, Tyson; and three great grandchildren, Owen, Hunter and Cora.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Road, Berryton. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. before services and after the services at the church.
