Sheriff investigates gun found on school property at Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Kan. – In a press release issued Oct. 29, 2019, Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn reported that her office has investigated a case of a firearm located on school property at Carbondale Attendance Center. Dunn said in the release the investigation began Oct. 18, and a firearm was located and removed from the school property.

Dunn provided no information regarding who possessed the gun, whether student, staff member or other individual, but the release indicated the USD 434 school district was dealing with the incident as a personnel issue.

“USD 434 will be handling the USD 434 personnel issues,” the sheriff reported.

Dunn said the investigation has been turned over to the Osage County Attorney for review to determine if charges will be filed. She said the sheriff’s office would have no other comment about the case until it is reviewed by the county attorney.

Revised Oct. 30, 2019, to confirm the sheriff’s statement regarding the school district handling the incident as a personnel issue.
