WAVERLY, Kan. – Mary Edna (Burnett) Lacey, 98, passed away at her home Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. Mary Edna was born Oct. 2, 1921, to William Albert Burnett and Trilby Jane (Bell) Burnett, in Ha Ha Tonka, Mo.
She married Clarence Lacey, April 23, 1940. They shared 66 years of marriage.
She was a homemaker for 35 years, going to work in 1975 at a restaurant in Lebo as a cook for one year. Then she started working at BETO Junction, from 1976 to1982, as a cook. In 1982, she started as head cook at Marais des Cygnes Valley High School, until retiring in 1992.
She was in preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; four brothers; her husband, Clarence; son, James Lacey; and grandson, Ricky McDaniels.
She is survived by six children, Phyllis Bitts (Ronald), Sharon Shaffer (Ralph), daughter-in-law Joyce, Jack Lacey (Joyce), Linda Johnson (Gary), John Lacey (Carolyn), and Dawn Bartlett (Ronald); and 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Clarence and Mary Edna lived in the Melvern, Kan., area until they moved to Waverly, Kan., were she resided until her death. The last year of her life was spent with her granddaughter and caregiver, Sarah Blankenship and her husband, CJ (TJ), and their three children.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at the Waverly Community Center, 408 Pearson Ave., Waverly.
