Young girl dies in icy highway accident at Overbrook

OVERBROOK, Kan. – A young passenger died from injuries sustained in a three-car collision at the west edge of Overbrook, Kan., on U.S. Highway 56 Monday morning, and icy roads were reported as the cause.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Cassie N. Ralston, 8, of Scranton, Kan., died after an accident that occurred around 8 a.m. Nov. 11, 2019. The KHP report said a 2001 Dodge Ram driven by Kirsten Noel Edwards, 43, Overbrook, was headed westbound on U.S. 56, when she lost control on the icy highway, crossed the center line, and collided head on with a 2008 Ford Edge driven by Terry Ralston, 52, Scranton. A third vehicle, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero driven by Kaelyn A. Watkins, 17, Overbrook, then collided with the rear of the Ralstons’ Ford Edge.

Cassie and Terry Ralston, and Kirsten Edwards and her passenger, Luke Edwards, 14, were all transported with unspecified injuries to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. Watkins was listed as having no apparent injuries.

Cassie and Terry Ralston and Watkins were listed as wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision, while the report didn’t specify for the Edwardses.
