Osage County Senior Center: Christmas on Market Street headquarters

Don’t forget to come down to Osage County Senior Center on Nov. 16 to help the Kawanis, Osage City Chamber of Commerce and everyone else that is helping with the kick off for Osage City’s Christmas holiday season.

At 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, Dee Davenport will be helping us with our new exercise program. It will consist of some chair exercises and then some walking or just moving. It will be fun, there will be nothing done on the floor. Come and join us for this new activity. It will be Monday through Friday and there is no cost.

Due to all the activities in November we will not be having a potluck but will start again on Dec. 18. Meals on wheels will be furnishing turkey with stuffing, ham, and mashed potatoes. So we just need the some additional trimmings and deserts. We hope to see you then.

On Nov. 21, Aspire 55 will be at the center. On Dec. 3, Hermes Footcare will be here to take any additional people that need toenails clipped or any other foot problems checked. You need to make an appointment for this, also. If we don’t have people sign up we will cancel this date. Anyone who had theirs done in October, will be eligible on Dec 19. Most have already made their appointment.

Sewing Chicks want to remind everyone that they are still making chemo-caps for cancer patients. If you know someone that needs one contact the center. If anyone would like to buy one, they are $5 each. If you would like to help make them you can contact the center for a pattern. Along with all the quilts, afghans, pillows, aprons, they make great Christmas presents. They also have some really nice walker bags made out of upholstery material, with more to come.

We want to make sure everyone knows that we give out commodities at the center the second Wednesday of every month. You must be 60 years old to qualify, with a monthly income of $1,354 for one person or $1,832 for two persons in the same house or less. Income verification is required. A one-month waiting period is required due to ordering a month in advance. Anyone in Osage County is eligible if they meet the above qualifications.  If you have more people in the household, contact the center and we can help with determining if you qualify. If you are unable to come to Osage City and pick up commodities, call the senior center and let us know. We would like to know if there are people that qualify that can’t get to the center.

The center and meals on wheels had a surprise birthday party for Warren Gunderman. He has volunteered with meals on wheels for around 10 years. Warren turned 93 years old Nov. 6. Gunderman has two children, Audrey Garton and the late Rebecca Reese, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. We celebrated with a birthday cake and ice cream.
