Senior center to be commodities distribution location

Submitted by Senior Center Director Byron Jordan

The Osage County Senior Center, at 604 Market St., Osage City, is a new distribution point for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for seniors 60 years and older who meet the federally mandated income qualifications. This program, sometimes referred to as the senior commodity box, has recently been contracted to the Harvesters Community Food Network. The process has not changed, just the location for picking up the boxes.

The products will be made available to Osage county residents who are on the approved list the Tuesday after the third Monday of each month. If you would like further information on this program, please call the center at 785-528-4906.

The Osage County Health Department has decided to discontinue its once a month wellness and foot care clinics at the senior center. However, they will still do foot care on Mondays and Wednesdays at the health department in Lyndon by appointment. Call them at 785-828-3117 for more information. Home Town Health Care will continue providing foot care clinics on the third Friday of each month at the senior center.

The Royal Family Kids Camp have set up a donation box for old shoes at the senior center as part of a fundraiser for their summer camp for abused and neglected foster care children. Please consider dropping off your old shoes at the center through the end of August for this worthy cause.
