It’s Christmas in Carbondale, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019

Excitement is jingling in the area for the 9th annual Christmas in Carbondale, a day full of holiday activities this Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019.

Activities will begin at 11 a.m. with a craft and small business fair until 3 p.m. in the ELM Community Building, where Girl Scout leaders will serve a chili lunch 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The ELM building will be overflowing with the business and craft fair, providing one-stop shopping for all of your needs from many home business company items to a wide variety of homemade crafts and baked goodies.

There will be family-friendly activities in Carbondale City Hall and in the fire station 1-3 p.m. Santa arrives at 1 p.m. and will be available for photos inside city hall. The Santa Fe Trail High School LEO, FBLA, and KAY Club members will assist with activities, such as helping children write Santa letters and with the ELM vendor market.

The library also is sponsoring a cookie baking contest that will be judged at 3 p.m. Those wanting to enter cookies should contact the city library. The fire department and Carbondale Police Department will have a variety of activities 1-3 p.m. inside the fire station. Main Street will be closed at 3 p.m. from Second Street to Third Street until 4:30 p.m. to provide a safe gathering of those wishing to sing and light the community tree. Individuals who for health reasons should not be exposed to cold temperatures will be allowed to park in the area to enjoy the tree lighting, and caroling from their vehicles.

The Carbondale Lions will have cocoa available under the ELM porch at 3 p.m. until when everyone is invited to gather for singing and lighting of the community Christmas tree at 3:30 p.m. Donations for cocoa will go towards community projects.

The Santa Fe Trail Choraliers will lead community singing and the Santa Fe Trail Band will play holiday selections.
