Mildred McCreight, 100, Lyndon: March 16, 1919 – Dec. 12, 2019

LYNDON, Kan. – Mildred McCreight, 100, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. She was born on March 16, 1919, on the family farm near Vassar, Kan., the daughter of Vivian and Verna Redenbaugh Brecheisen.

Mildred grew up near Vassar and had lived in rural Lyndon, Kan., until moving into town. She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1937. She was a homemaker and farm wife and also worked as a CNA at Hilltop Nursing Home, Lyndon. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Community Church.

On April 15, 1941, Mildred was married to Kenneth McCreight, at her parents’ home near Vassar.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on Aug. 8, 1990; by her parents, Vivian and Verna; four brothers, Glen, Leonard, Danny and Harold Brecheisen; and four sisters, Wilma Brecheisen, Dorothy Lewis, Esther Johnson and Mabel Athon.

Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Ardis Ann (Clyde) Diehl, Lyndon, and Arlene “Aggie” (Rick) Hurt, Prescott, Ariz.; two brothers, Wallace Brecheisen, Elephant Butte, N.M., and Larry Brecheisen, Conroe, Texas; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church. southeast of Lyndon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery.
