AG announces upcoming open meeting, open records training

TOPEKA – Registration is open for the annual Kansas Open Meetings and Open Records Act training seminars. The seminars will be presented at five locations across Kansas and are sponsored by the Attorney General’s Office, Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government, Kansas Press Association and Kansas Newspaper Foundation.

For Osage County residents, the closest seminar will be 1:30-4:30 p.m. July 24 at Memorial Hall, 120 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Other seminars are being held in Pittsburg, Paola, Colby and Garden City.

“Transparency in government requires elected officials, public employees, members of the media and the public to be informed about Kansas laws,” said Attorney General Derek Schmidt. “We are pleased to once again offer these seminars on the basics of our open-government laws.”

The seminars are free and open to the public. Space at each location is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can register on the Kansas Attorney General’s website, www.ag.ks.gov, or by calling (785) 296-2215 or (888) 428-8436.
