Peggy L. Bardsley, 79, Scranton: Oct. 17, 1940 – March 6, 2020

SCRANTON, Kan. – Peggy L. Bardsley, 79, went to see her Lord and Master on Friday, March 6, 2020, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kan. She was born Oct. 17, 1940, on a farm west of Burlington, Kan., the daughter of Howard and Nellie Carney Truelove.

Peggy grew up in Burlington, and had lived in Topeka before moving to a farm near Scranton, Kan., in 1971. She had moved back to Topeka in 2018.

Peggy worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 35 years in the operations division. She also worked as the city clerk for the city of Scranton from 1997 to 2000, the U.S. Coast Guard in 2008, and the Federated Church in Burlingame. Her last employment was with Three Lakes, working at Santa Fe Trail High School as a para-educator. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Scranton, until it closed. While there, she served as chair on the board of trustees, sang in the choir, and served on the board of directors. She was then a member at the Oakland United Methodist Church, in Topeka.

Peggy’s favorite pastime was NASCAR racing. She attended races in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Nevada and Florida with her race pals, Joe Schaefer and Dick Davis. She enjoyed traveling, going to Jamaica, Hawaii, Wyoming and Montana. Her favorite pal in later years was her dog, Mathias.

On Oct. 13, 1962, Peggy was married to Robert Bardsley, in Topeka.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Aug. 10, 2015; her parents, Howard and Nellie; brother, Howard Truelove Jr.; and sister, Betty Lee.

Peggy is survived by her son, Robert Wayne Bardsley Jr., of Topeka; grandson, Jordan Smith; great-granddaughter, Emerald Adger; and other relatives and many friends.
