Osage City blood drive Thursday: Urgent need announced

Update July 24: Community Blood Center announced an urgent need for blood Wednesday, with greatest urgency for types A negative and O negative. Anyone who is able is encouraged to donate during the blood drive Thursday, July 25 at the Osage County Senior Center, 604 Market St., Osage City.

“When individuals normally think of essential community services, they think about the fire and police departments,” said Dr. Jay Menitove, Community Blood Center executive director and medical director. “However, because Community Blood Center is here to meet the needs of local patients, we would hope that individuals in our community would consider us to be just as essential.”

Menitove noted that one donation can help as many as two local hospital patients. Community Blood Center must collect at least 580 pints of blood every day to meet the needs of our area.

Individuals in Osage City can help meet local needs by donating blood at the blood drive 12:30-5:30 p.m. July 25 at the senior center. To make an appointment, visit www.esavealifenow.org and use sponsor code osagecitycomm; or contact local representative Nadine Tindell at 785-528-3823. Those who register to donate can also enter to win a Disney World family adventure.
