Sheriff’s offices seek information about multi-county farm equipment thefts

The Osage, Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties’ sheriff’s offices are all taking reports of stolen cattle panels, a portable corral panel trailer and parts stolen from a portable corral trailer in the past several weeks. Other items are also missing from abandoned farmsteads, farmers’ barns or storage areas. All agencies are working together to find the culprits.

One suspect vehicle may be an older dark color GMC or Chevrolet pickup.

The law enforcement agencies are asking people to be aware of anyone driving by farms or rural storage areas repeatedly or taking photos; suspects could be checking for something to steal. One mode of operation is to come to your residence in the daytime and contact you, asking for scrap metals to haul off, or looking for directions, while checking out your property for something to steal.

Anyone who has any information regarding these or any other crimes is asked to contact their local sheriff’s office. In Osage County, callers can report crimes anonymously through Osage County Crimestoppers at 877-OSCRIME (877-672-7463), or call the sheriff’s office at 785-828-3121.

Information thanks to Wabaunsee County Undersheriff Brett Wilson.
