Bessie B. McFarlane, 87, Burlingame: Aug. 10, 1932 – June 13, 2020

BURLINGAME, Kan. – Bessie B. McFarlane, 87, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020, at Vintage Park, Osage City, Kan., surrounded by family. Bessie was born on Aug. 10, 1932, in Harveyville, Kan., on her favorite storying telling place Buttermilk Lane. She was the daughter of Ray G. and Ora Lila (Wyrick) Meyers.

Bessie attended grade school in Harveyville, and then moved to Burlingame, Kan., where she spent most of her life.

Bessie graduated from Burlingame High School with the class 1950. She had worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in Topeka, Kan., was a homemaker, and worked at Patterson’s Hy-Klas. Joe and Bessie owned and operated J-B Swap and Shop, and she was a donut maker at Casey’s, all in Burlingame. She had also worked at Dollar General, in Osage City, in her retirement years. She was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church, the VFW, and Eastern Star.

On Sept. 14, 1951, Bessie was married to Joseph W. McFarlane, at Burlingame Federated Church.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Joe, on Sept. 15, 2010; son, Jeffrey M. McFarlane, on March 14, 2014; three sisters, Ora Jackson, Dorothy Dorr and Evelyn Moon; and great-grandchild Kaysein Harris.

Bessie is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Duane), of Harveyville, and Cindy (Kevin) Harris, Burlingame; daughter-in-law, Pam McFarlane, Burlingame; eight grandchildren, Josey (Christina) McFarlane, Jacob (Katie) McFarlane, Kelsie (Brad) Kooser, Molly (Dwayne) Wall, Noel Poe, Andy (Bree) Harris, Daniel (Erin) Harris and Kyle Harris; 17 great-grandchildren, McKenna, Madison, Morgan, Moxie, and Jameson McFarlane, Justice, Preslee, and Ryker McFarlane, Braxton, Jeffrey Decker, Collins, and Kane Kooser, Paighten, Karter, and Burke Harris, and Lexie and Emery. She holds a special place her heart for two other grandchildren, Derrick and Shayla.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Burlingame Federated Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church. Burial will be in the Burlingame Cemetery.
