Ottawa man dies in motorcycle/pickup accident near Vassar

VASSAR, Kan. – An Ottawa man died and his passenger seriously injured Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding struck the back of a pickup truck stopped to turn at a junction of two Osage County highways, near Vassar, Kan.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Bryan Thomas Holland, 49, Ottawa, was driving a 1993 Yamaha Venture Royale, westbound on state Highway 268, with Stacy L. Holland, 48, Ottawa, as a passenger, around 2:10 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020. A 1995 Ford F-150 driven by Arthur C. Hogelin, 72, Vassar, was stopped at the junction of K-268 and state Highway 368 waiting to turn south, when the motorcycle struck the back of the pickup for unknown reasons.

Bryan Holland died at the scene and Stacy Holland was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, with suspected serious injury. Both riders on the motorcycle were wearing helmets. Hogelin was listed in the KHP report as having no apparent injury and was wearing safety restraint.
