Osage City celebrates 150 years with Saturday festival

Fall is in the air, leaves are changing, and autumn breezes are blowing in sesquicentennial celebrations across Osage County. At Osage City, the community is celebrating its 150th anniversary and recognizing this monumental occasion in its history this Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020.

The Osage City Chamber of Commerce is offering activities for everyone 1-4 p.m. Saturday, in downtown Osage City, centered at Santa Fe Park. The event is to include local band Backyard Legend, a beer garden, Cornhole tournament, disc golf putting contest, 50/50 pot, raffle, balloon artist, face painting and spin art, food vendors and a kids’ recreation area.

The Chamber also has for sale a variety of merchandise commemorating the city’s 150th anniversary. The late Ken Martin created a DVD of the Osage City centennial in 1970. There are a lot of individuals that were a part of the celebration and are still in Osage City ready to celebrate the 150th.

The DVD is $15 and can be purchased at McCoy’s RadioShack, Osage Hardware, Diane Michael’s Hair Salon and Jeanette Swarts, 785-249-5451. Other items that will be available are a 150th anniversary T-shirt, koozies, magnets, golf discs along with give-away items, including a pen and wooden nickel. The Chamber will also have a booth at the event, so anyone who wants 150th anniversary souvenirs can stop by any of the mentioned locations and purchase some memorabilia. Also the Chamber has also displayed 150th anniversary banners and have them hanging throughout the downtown business district.
