James ‘Jim’ Ralph Hendrix, 79, Lyndon: April 25, 1941 – Oct. 3, 2020

LYNDON, Kan. – James “Jim” Ralph Hendrix, 79, of Lyndon, Kan., departed this life on Oct. 3, 2020, at the Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital, Topeka, Kan. He was born April 25, 1941, in Grantville, Kan.

Jim graduated from Topeka High School in 1959. After high school, on July 6, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was an artillery weapons repairman and was honorably discharged July 5, 1963, earning the rank of corporal.

On June 25, 1966, Jim was married to Leyla Ann Craig, in Topeka, Kan. They shared more than 54 years of marriage. To this union they shared three daughters, Steph, Debbie and Kim.

Jim spent more than 30 years as the postmaster in Lyndon and Vassar, and retired in 1999. He was a volunteer firefighter for Lyndon and Vassar. He was also a member of the Lyndon Saddle Club. Jim enjoyed not only coaching his daughter’s softball teams, but also coaching his extra girls for many years after. Most of all Jim loved being a “Papa”, not only to his grandchildren but to many others who loved him as well. Jim will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.

Jim was preceded in death by parents; his daughter Kim Moon; and brothers, Marvin and Jack Hendrix.

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Leyla, of the home; two daughters, Stephanie Garcia (Buddy), Carbondale, Kan., and Debbie Robertson (Bryan), Gardner, Kan.; son, Brentt Moon, Lyndon; a sister, Jean Serrano, Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Caden, Kinsey, Jack (Jody), Scott (Denise), Quintin (Alyssa), Bailey, Bryson, Kali and Lawson; and four great grandchildren, Ian, Gemma, Scott E., and Alexia.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial with military honors will follow at the Vassar Cemetery. Jim’s family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Feltner Funeral Chapel.
