Edwin Eugene McCoy, 76, Burlington: July 15, 1944 – Nov. 9, 2020

BURLINGTON, Kan. – Edwin Eugene McCoy, 76, departed this life on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, at the VA Hospital, Topeka, Kan. He was born July 15, 1944, in Yates Center, Kan., the son of Edwin W. and Mona E. (Woodcock) McCoy.

Edwin graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 25, 1965. He was an aircraft fuel system mechanic, where he earned the rank of sergeant, and was honorably discharged Nov. 25, 1968, after serving in the Vietnam War.

On May 23, 1970, in Wichita, Kan, Edwin married Christine M. Peterson. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Bryan and David McCoy. They later divorced.

Edwin was a career tradesman as a welder, mechanic and carpenter. He worked for Cessna Aircraft Company, Wichita, and later moved to Owasso, Okla., where he worked for Miser Top Soil and Asphalt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mona McCoy, and his sister, Virginia Shepherd.

Edwin is survived by his two sons, Bryan E. McCoy (Julie), of Vassar, Kan., and David E. McCoy, Burlington, Kan.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Garrett, and Katelynn McCoy; and five great-grandchildren, Leah Rowland, Colt Higginbotham, Mason Rowland, Emmett Higginbotham, and Michael Rowland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Osage City, Kan. A visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Gridley Cemetery, Gridley, Kan. Military honors will be after final blessings at the gravesite.
